Burqua
A burqua is an outer garment worn by women in some Islamic traditions to cover their bodies. Laila and Mariam are forced by Rasheed to wear them in the community. For women, these symbolize their loss of identity and entrapment in their marriage.
Kolba
A kolba is a small mud hut and symbolizes entrapment and poverty that Mariam experiences in her life. It becomes both a home and a prison for her as a child.
